Autumn is prime season for the wild stuff. I've been in Europe all summer where climate permits plenty of wild mushrooming. But now, here in Utah, semi-arid, I wonder where? Has anyone found any mushrooms at all in this state?

Re: finding funghi in Utah...advice?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 2:02 AMi used to live in cache valley in northern utah. my best friend did mycological fieldwork all over the state. he studied under dr. brad kropp at utah state university. anyway... utah has excellent places to forage. boletus edulus (king boletes) are found in deciduous areas, typically in aspen groves. i've collected morels, chanterelles, boletes, chicken mushroom, and others i can't remember. most of the places i collected was in the mountains.
you could probably look up dr. kropp at utah state university (in logan) and give him a call.
hope this helps. -
